The Rockingham County School Board approved two procurement actions during its meeting: authorization to issue a request for proposals (RFP) for athletic training services and an award of a bus-tire contract to the low bidder.
Justin Moyers presented the request to issue an RFP for athletic training services, noting the district's current contract with Sentara is expiring and that the recommended approach is competitive negotiations through an RFP rather than sealed bidding. Moyers said the recommended contract approach would allow up to five one-year renewals within a five-year window. The board voted 4-0 to approve the request to use competitive negotiations and issue the RFP.
Chris Sowers, director of transportation, presented the bid recommendation for bus fleet tires. Five firms received bid packages and two submitted sealed bids; Sowers recommended awarding the contract to Big L Tire Pros, the low bidder, for $73,833.20. The board approved the award 4-0.
Board members also previewed a new procurement staff report that will be presented monthly to give advance notice of ongoing procurements, intended to provide transparency and earlier warning before formal approvals.
Both actions were approved unanimously and will proceed to contract execution or solicitation as recommended by staff.
