Resident urges county and city to work together to preserve Massanutten Technical Center access

Tad Williams, a city resident and Broadway High School graduate, used the board's public comment period on May 12 to urge Rockingham County officials to work with the City of Harrisonburg to preserve joint governance of Massanutten Technical Center (MTC).
Williams said he had previously written the board and expressed concern that the county might withdraw from its agreement with the city to govern the technical center, which he said would be "a real disservice" to students who rely on the shared program. "I would strongly advocate that the county work with the city to resolve whatever differences it may have so that MTC can continue as it is as a joint effort," he told the board, adding that dialogue and compromise — not politics — are needed to resolve disagreements.
Williams said his son plans to attend a local high school next year and wants to enroll at MTC, and he urged elected officials to prioritize students' access to vocational and educational opportunities above intergovernmental disputes. The board did not take immediate action on governance of MTC during the meeting; the comment was entered into the public record.
