School board declares surplus property for online auction, appoints county capital-improvement representative and revises meeting schedule

The Rockingham County Public Schools Board on Sept. 8 declared a list of furniture, equipment and one bus surplus and authorized online public auctions beginning Sept. 18, with weekly closings until items are sold. Steve Reid, director of maintenance, presented the surplus list and noted heavy demand for some items; board members commented on the condition and rarity of some equipment.
The board also approved Justin Moyers as the district’s representative to the county capital improvement plan committee; board members confirmed that Moyers will serve on the county committee to represent the school division’s interests in capital planning.
Separately, staff presented a revised 2025 meeting schedule that changes the location of an October meeting to avoid conflicts with early voting. The board approved the revised calendar and asked staff to confirm teacher workdays and other local events before finalizing dates.
All three items were approved by voice votes recorded in the meeting (surplus declaration and appointments recorded as unanimous 5–0). Staff said they will post auction details and follow procurement and inventory procedures to remove declared surplus items from district inventory.
