School board approves $3.5 million transfer to capital projects for cameras, Spotswood assessment and MTC work

The Rockingham County Public School Board approved a budget amendment on Oct. 13 to move $3.5 million from the FY2025 operating fund balance to the FY2026 capital projects fund.
Justin Moyers, identified as the division's chief financial and operating officer, said the funds will finish the security-camera project, address needs identified at Spotswood High School and contribute remaining funds to the MTC project. "With this money, we will complete the security camera project, use it for the Spotswood High School needs assessment that we've started, and then also any remaining funds will go towards the MTC project," he said.
Dr. Shiflett recommended board approval; the motion to approve was made and seconded and passed with a recorded vote of 5–0.
Next steps: staff will transfer the funds into the capital projects fund and proceed with the projects described; no further vote was recorded at the meeting.
