The Mineral Point Unified School District board approved seven policy changes on their second reading, adopting language the policy committee recommended and that staff said was drawn from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) review guide.
Staff (speaker 5) said the policies addressed topics including staff-misconduct reporting, family medical leave, uniformed-service leave and hiring retirees; one change updated a district leave cap to match current law (from 35 to 70 days where required). The board approved the group of second-reading policies on a single motion and voice vote.
The policy committee also presented complex first-reading items to be returned for future consideration, including transportation policy 7-51 (hazardous-location examples) and vehicle-use policy 7-52. During discussion staff referenced 2021 Act 76 as relevant to the vehicle-use policy and suggested adding a driver-checklist and clearer eligibility language for who may operate state-owned vehicles.
Board members asked that attachments and example hazard-area language be circulated with the policy materials for ease of implementation; no amendments to the second-reading approvals were made at the meeting.
