Board to gather family and staff feedback after referendum, administrator says

A board member and district administrator said the most common feedback from families after a recent referendum was concern about communication, and the district will launch parent, staff and community surveys to collect input on how to improve outreach and district planning.

During public comment and the administrative report, the speaker emphasized that communication emerged as the primary lesson from the referendum and proposed a district-led survey to ask families what they want to see and how the district is currently serving the community. Administrator Chris said the surveys will ask respondents for specific feedback on the referendum process and on what the district should prioritize moving forward.

Chris reviewed several end-of-year events and timelines while outlining next steps: field trips on May 17, high school day of service and elementary ice cream social on May 22, elementary field day on May 23, the last day of school on May 24, and principal interviews beginning May 28. Chris said the district will use feedback from the surveys to help define two to three strategic goals and to clarify the district mission and values.

The board also discussed the principal-hiring timeline: the first round of parent-led principal interviews will include multiple simultaneous panels and will narrow six candidates to two for a second round of questions. The chair said community volunteers and staff are participating in the initial interview panels.
