At the Kickapoo Area School District annual meeting on Aug. 4, electors approved the district’s 2025–26 tax levy and a series of required annual resolutions.
The meeting adopted a total levy of $3,272,963 for the 2025–26 school year, allocated as $2,672,323 for operation and maintenance, $438,575 for nonreferendum debt service and $162,065 for referendum debt service. The levy resolution was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Other annual resolutions approved by voice vote:
- Board member compensation: current rates retained at $1,200 per board member, $1,500 for board president and $1,300 for the board clerk, plus mileage at the IRS rate and meeting fees as posted. - Temporary borrowing: electors authorized the board to secure short-term loans during the fiscal year under Wisconsin Statutes §67.12 to meet cash-flow needs. - School meal program: the board is authorized to provide hot lunches, breakfasts and milk to students and to cover any deficiency from the general fund if necessary. - Legal proceedings authority: electors authorized the board to commence legal proceedings as required to protect district interests. - Transportation authority: electors authorized the board to transport students as required by state law, to provide discretionary transportation for students living less than two miles from school, and to maintain and, if necessary, purchase or finance transportation vehicles.
Each resolution was read aloud by meeting leadership, moved and seconded, and carried by voice vote; the transcript records unanimous “Aye” responses and no formal roll-call tallies.
What happens next: These approvals give the board the statutory authorities it needs to operate for the 2025–26 school year; the district will implement the levy and routine authorities through its budget and administrative processes.
