Board told to act next month on Title IX changes after federal update

President Welt told the Hartford J1 School District Board on June 25 that federal changes to Title IX require the district to take three board actions next month.
"There are going to be 3 action items all revolving around Title IX next month," Welt said, explaining the immediate steps: reapprove the district's prior Title IX policy with a technical date change so it remains in effect until the new policy takes effect; consider waiving the board's standard two‑reading requirement for policy 0131.1; and then approve a new Title IX policy. She said Wisconsin is not among the states appealing the federal update and that the district will consult multiple sets of attorneys while drafting the replacement.
Welt emphasized the compressed timetable imposed by federal deadlines and said district staff (including Ms. Keneally) will work this week and next to prepare a policy for the board's July meeting. She invited board members to raise questions and to contact administrators with concerns before the July session.
No vote on Title IX occurred at the June 25 meeting; Welt previewed the items so board members could be prepared for the July actions.
