Patrick Austin (director of business services) said he's transitioning from corporate finance and education work and is focused on putting teachers and administrators in position to succeed. Lisa Strohmeck, director of pupil/student services, described her background in child welfare and special education and said she is excited to engage with staff. John Fox, new principal at North Shore, said he has spent two decades in education and highlighted plans for one-on-one "hello" meetings with staff.
Tina told the board registration will open Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. and noted a new parental-consent requirement tied to Google's policy changes: certain Google services such as YouTube, Maps and Earth now require parent or guardian consent for students under 18 to access them. "If you don't sign and give consent, then there won't be a Google Chromebook. Your child won't be able ... there will be paper and pencil," Tina said, adding that the district will provide double-created lessons if necessary and that the district has technical safeguards while students are on school networks.
Tina also previewed the district's strategic plan and "Portrait of a Graduate," describing five pillars (student success, safety, community engagement, wellness and fiscal responsibility) and monthly themes tied to grade bands. She said a dashboard will display stoplight indicators (red/yellow/green) and guideposts and that advisory teams are already working on metrics and action plans to align school- and district-level goals.
