Board approves memberships, policy second readings, student trip and multiple donations

At its June 23 meeting the Grafton School District board approved a package of routine items including two membership renewals, four policy second readings, a student overnight trip, and multiple restricted donations.
Administration asked for board authorization to join or renew WIA membership for student-athlete participation next year; the board approved that membership. The board also voted to renew the district's membership in the Southeastern Wisconsin Schools Alliance (SWSA), which provides legislative advocacy and monthly guidance for districts.
The board conducted second reads and approved four policies returned from the policy committee: policy 2370 (educational options provided by the district), policy 2440.01 (summer/interim school attendance), policy 5411 (third-grade promotion and retention for at-risk students), and policy 8125 (consultants).
The board approved an overnight trip request for Grafton High School Future Business Leaders of America to attend the national leadership competition in Anaheim, California; administration said students have been fundraising through school activities and from parents and local sponsors to cover costs.
On gifts, the administration presented multiple restricted donations for board approval: a $10,000 restricted gift from CAPCO to the HAWKS program; a donation from the estate of Ellen L. McDowell of a 2010 Subaru Legacy valued at $6,551 for the automotive department; Grafton Athletic Booster Club donations including a $10,352 wrestling mat and $1,500 for the girls basketball team; Office Depot provided a $1,279.05 gift card for Woodview Elementary; and several smaller restricted gifts for SkillsUSA, dance team and Student Success Center programs. One board member abstained on the gift-report vote; the remainder voted aye.
