Board approves new hires and authorizes advance summer teaching contracts

The board voted to approve the hires of Kristen Bork (0.67 FTE art teacher at John Long Middle School) and Tegan Meiran (0.75 FTE social-studies teacher at Grafton High School) and accepted the resignation of Cassidy Perkins (special-education teacher at Kennedy Elementary School).
Superintendent Mr. Nelson (Speaker 2) explained the rationale for advance approval of summer contracts: if the district waits until the next board meeting to issue contracts, candidates with current jobs may not resign in time to accept and prepare for the district position. He described advance approval as a practice the district has used for several years to secure candidates and allow them to participate in summer planning.
The board approved the advance-approval process for teacher contracts extending to candidates hired prior to the July meeting and between the July and August meetings, and approved related personnel motions by voice vote.
