Frederic board approves renaming and edits to activities code, replacing “co‑curricular” with “extracurricular”

Board members discussed the document labeled on the agenda as the athletic handbook and clarified that the formal title is the “Extracurricular Activities and Programs code.” Staff explained the rationale for consolidating athletics and other school activities under one code to capture eligibility and standards across both athletic and nonathletic programs.

Speaker 2 and others noted inconsistent uses of the terms “co‑curricular” and “extracurricular” across documents; Speaker 1 moved to change instances of “co curricular” to “extracurricular” throughout the code. The board approved the motion by voice vote.

Members said the consolidated code will include eligibility language that applies to activities such as cross country, FFA and FBLA, and that a live link to the athletic/extracurricular code will be posted on the district website for parents and students to access.

The motion was recorded and the board directed staff to standardize spacing and formatting across the document before posting.
