Board approves remediation and construction bids for elementary wing

The board approved awarding remediation and reconstruction bids for nine elementary classrooms after facilities staff presented competitive bids and a remediation plan.
Brian (facilities) explained that Robertson Brothers submitted the lowest remediation bid and had previously performed similar work in the building. EMC, the district's environmental consultant, will oversee air sampling, microbial remediation and certify the rooms when work is complete.
"This covers nine classrooms," Brian said, outlining the scope: removal of existing drywall where needed, installation of closed-cell foam insulation, antimicrobial paint and follow-up air sampling. The work includes contingency funds to cover additional drywall removal if required.
Staff explained the schedule is planned to take advantage of contractor availability in the summer to keep costs lower and complete work before the next school year; target windows discussed ranged from late May to mid-June for some activities and finishing work by July 1.
The board moved and approved the remediation and related work by voice vote. Administration will finalize contracts, lock in dates, and bring any remaining drywall bids for the final trades work back to the board for confirmation.
What happens next: contracts will be executed, EMC will manage testing and certification, and the districts will schedule work to avoid occupant disruption during the school year.
