The district treasurer told the board the audit work is finished and that accounting entries are complete, with the official audit documents expected in November. He said the most recent year produced about an $89,000 surplus, increasing the district's fund balance toward roughly $950,000.
"We missed our $100,000 goal by $10," the treasurer said, describing progress toward rebuilding reserves after earlier deficits. He described moving to self-funded dental as a cost-saving step that generated a modest surplus and reduced staff premiums.
Trustees pressed for clearer, regular financial reporting tied to the referendum projects. Several members asked for a consolidated spreadsheet that lists each line item, the board-approved estimate, actual paid amounts and explanations for over- or under-spending. Administration agreed to prepare a more detailed monthly breakdown for the board to review before committing to additional capital purchases.
Administrators reviewed major referendum components: an $8.7 million base project, an estimated $205,000 chiller, a roughly $100,000 allocation for the front-door remodel and other listed items. They cautioned that final costs will depend on returned bids and that some line items changed because of electrical issues or added lighting on the parking lot.
What happens next: administration will deliver the requested spreadsheet and updated bid results in coming board packets; the board will use that information to decide whether to accelerate or delay additional referendum-scope spending.
