Third graders showcase Master Gardener microfarm; student council previews Halloween bash

Third graders and their teachers presented a Master Gardener microfarm project to the board and described planting a variety of vegetables as part of an outreach program run by the Columbia County Master Gardeners.
A teacher said volunteers helped students plant microfarms, and students Maggie and Hannah explained that they planted carrots, lettuce, spinach, turnips, Swiss chard and kale and will harvest produce for a salad in a few weeks. "We're going to eat it," a student said.
Earlier in the meeting, the student council representative said homecoming went well and previewed a Halloween bash the council is organizing with the police department and PPO; the council said the elementary gymnasium event is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., with trick‑or‑treating later in the afternoon.
Board members thanked the students and teachers for bringing the classroom project to the meeting; the presentations were framed as part of district community and outreach efforts.
