East Troy board approves four staff hires, accepts informational staffing update

The East Troy Community School District Board of Education on Monday approved hires to fill several instructional and student-support roles, moving to strengthen the district’s special education and intervention teams.
The board approved the hiring of Michelle Walter as a middle school special education teacher, Matthew Sockrider as the district’s at-risk program coordinator, Ryan Vodnick as high-school academic interventionist and Julia Fisher as middle school reading support teacher. Chair (S1) moved the motion and a board member (S2) seconded; the board approved the motion by voice vote, and the Chair announced the motion carries.
The presenters described the hiring process and candidate backgrounds. Presenters said Walter has nearly 30 years of middle-school teaching experience, including prior special-education work; references described her as “extremely dependable, hardworking, and a strong advocate” for students. The board heard that Jesse Larson will be reassigned to the district’s 4K special-education role, creating the middle-school vacancy Walter will fill.
The board also heard that Matthew Sockrider was selected for the newly titled at-risk coordinator role (a title change from a prior alternative-education designation). The presenter said Sockrider holds a bachelor’s degree and will pursue both a special-education license and an alternative-education license next year. Ryan Vodnick, a familiar face to the district, will return as academic interventionist and be based at the high school; the presenter noted he is pursuing an alternative-education certificate. Julia Fisher, selected from a strong candidate pool, has experience with the Amplify curriculum adopted by the district and will serve as the middle school reading-support teacher.
The board was also given an informational update that Emily Korpella will replace Kim Peter as the high-school attendance secretary; the presenter said Korpella had begun training.
The hires address vacancies across buildings and roles the district said are aimed at supporting students at risk of not graduating and bolstering reading and special-education capacity. The board took no additional personnel action at the meeting.
