Districtwide safety drills completed; leaders report fixes and further exercises planned

Safety coordinator (presenting on behalf of operations) told the board the district conducted a districtwide safety drill this month and that overall the exercise went smoothly; staff will log the drill with state authorities and pursue corrective actions identified during building debriefs.
"This past month, we did do our safety drill, district wide, and pretty much everything went very swimmingly," the safety presenter said. Building leaders met with staff immediately after the drill to address issues and will run additional targeted drills; facilities staff reported certain door- or mechanical-related items were fixed or scheduled for repair and that a winter-break walk-through will be used for more substantial repairs. The district said it intends to submit the drill report to the Office of School Safety and the Wisconsin Department of Justice before the Jan. 1 compliance deadline.
Board members pressed for clarity about consistency across buildings and asked how accountability would be maintained; staff said debriefs, additional walkthroughs and more frequent drills will be part of an ongoing cycle to improve readiness. No security details that would compromise safety procedures were discussed in open session.
