Brown Deer highlights early MAP screener data and outlines classroom interventions

Dana Rosman, the district ata coordinator, told the Brown Deer School Board the district has switched this year from FastBridge to the MAP universal screener to give teachers standards-aligned, nationally normed data that can inform classroom instruction. "I have the pleasure of providing some information, a brief overview of our new universal screener here at Brown Deer," Rosman said, adding MAP produces reports teachers can use from district down to individual-student level.
The presentation outlined how MAP aligns with Wisconsin state standards and projects student performance on state Forward exams. High school and building instructional leaders presented early fall results and next steps: at the elementary level staff reported notably strong results for K–5 in some measures (the presentation cited a 54% share of K–5 scholars performing above a referenced 60th‑percentile band in one baseline snapshot), while several high‑school grades showed lower proficiency percentages on the district's fall math screen. "We're able to track our ACT standards while at the same time using our MAP data to drive those," Taylor McDaniel, the high-school instructional coach, said.
Administrators described how the district will use MAP to guide small-group instruction, align PLC (professional learning community) work to prioritized standards, and pair MAP-identified skill gaps with IXL interventions for targeted practice. School leaders emphasized accountability measures that will connect professional development to practice: walkthroughs and common planning times will provide baseline feedback, coaches will support embedded PD, and some teacher evaluation components (SLOs) will reflect growth goals tied to school objectives.
Rosman and principals said the district will share MAP results with families through parent-teacher conferences and through WISEdash Local, and they plan an assessment tab on the district website so parents can see trends. Administrators emphasized the current fall data are a baseline for measuring winter-to-spring growth and said they will present updated results after the next MAP window.
The board did not take any formal vote on assessment policy at the meeting; members asked for continued updates and a community-facing summary explaining what the MAP data mean for families and how to interpret proficiency and growth.
