The Brown Deer School District board approved two athletics-related items: a new admission fee structure for middle-school home athletic events and funding for out-of-state wrestling travel.
Administration proposed charging $3 for adults and $2 for K–12 students at middle-school home events; preschool-age children and children under five would be admitted free, and staff with ID would receive free admission. "We're looking to charge $3 for adults and $2 for students K–12," said Mr. McGregory as he explained the plan and said proceeds would help fund schoolwide incentives, field trips and equipment.
Board members pressed administrators about how students who cannot pay would be handled. Mr. McGregory suggested pragmatic solutions such as allowing students to perform brief volunteer tasks (for example, concession or set-up duties) to gain free entry; members also discussed booster passes or offering admission as part of early-year school-fee bundles so families could purchase an all‑season pass.
After discussion, a motion to adopt the spectator admission fees as presented was made, seconded and approved unanimously.
Separately, the board approved district funding of up to $5,000 for the wrestling team’s trip to the Dan Gable Donnybrook tournament in Iowa, covering entry fees, lodging, food and travel costs. "Last year we asked for $5,000 not to exceed $5,000. The total came to $4,468.20," Mr. McGregory said in support of the request. The motion to approve out-of-state travel funding passed unanimously.
Board members asked staff to work out operational details for collecting admission fees, hardship accommodations and possible booster-pass options before implementation.
