The Bangor School District Board approved policy updates that include a revised academic‑honesty policy and guidance on the educational use of artificial‑intelligence tools.
Administration said the district previously had an AI policy that merely acknowledged AI's existence; the updated academic‑honesty policy contains clearer guardrails for when and how AI tools may be used in instruction. "What we developed is solid, and it's getting us to start to allow, with some guardrails and some expectations the use of AI as a as a incredibly powerful learning tool," the presenter said. Trustees were told that parental consent mechanisms will be used where required when students use some AI‑driven apps or services.
The PRC reviewed Neola recommendations and the board approved Volume 34, Number 2 (policy updates) by motion; administration noted the nondiscrimination policy has been centralized so other policies can reference a single location for that statement.
The board approved the policy package by voice vote.
