Open Government Commission finalizes Open Government Week outreach, schedules tables and shifts

The Open Government Commission finalized outreach plans for Open Government Week and assigned volunteer shifts for tabling at the library, Gavilan College and outside the council chambers.

The commission’s Chair said commissioners should attend Monday’s council proclamation and presentation and encouraged participation at tabling events. "I encourage as many commissioners available, show up," the Chair said, asking commissioners to avoid sitting together in ways that could create a Brown Act quorum issue.

Commission staff outlined logistics: a two-shift schedule at the library (3 p.m.–5 p.m. and 5 p.m.–7 p.m.), two blocks at Gavilan College (10 a.m.–12 p.m. and 4 p.m.–6 p.m.), and a station outside council chambers during Monday’s meeting. The Chair described a plan to make agendas and public comment cards available at each table and suggested bringing a laptop or tablet to demonstrate the public records portal and other city resources.

Commissioners volunteered to bring tables, coverings and decorations and to front the two-person per-shift staffing plan where possible. The Chair said a short five-minute annual open-government report will follow the proclamation at Monday’s council meeting and that the commission will provide outreach materials at the events.

The commission also approved its consent calendar at the start of the meeting. Vice Chair McCauley moved to approve the consent items and a commissioner seconded; the motion passed on a unanimous roll-call vote.

The chair and clerk said the commission’s outreach article will be published online later in the week and commissioners discussed printing copies for the table. The commission closed the item after finalizing assignments and responsibilities for the week.
