Larson said the council accepted the commission’s recommendations on concept plans reviewed at the previous council meeting and noted there are engineering and utility concerns on at least one concept plan that will require the applicant to revise their materials.
On the North Shore Trail, Larson summarized a well‑attended workshop where many residents expressed interest in a bike or walking trail along North Shore, but staff and the engineer cautioned that adding a full trail would be expensive. "It's what 6 or $8,000,000 to add a trail," Larson said, citing the significant cost of ditch reconstruction, drainage, tree removal and utility relocations that a full trail would require.
Staff also alerted commissioners that Highway 97 is slated for phased reconstruction with public information sessions planned in March and work scheduled in two stages (one segment in 2025 and another in 2026). The commission was invited to attend the upcoming information session to learn specifics about timeline and impacts.
Larson and staff said more detailed engineering and budget information will follow as plans develop and that the commission should expect additional updates in future meetings.
