A parent who identified herself as Corey Arnold told the Johnson County School District #1 trustees she hoped the board would announce a new head girls soccer coach for VHS at the meeting but found the job posting still active after nearly four months.
"Nearly 4 months have passed, an entire summer of team soccer camps, workouts, team activities has been lost," Arnold said, saying she had been assured by a school contact in August that interviews and a hire would be completed by the board meeting. She asked whether there were applicants and urged the district to advertise more widely and involve the community in recruiting a qualified coach.
Board members pressed administration for details. Superintendent (S2) said BHS administration and the athletic director "did not come prepared for that tonight" and that he would return to his office to check the status and follow up with the board. "As soon as I know more, I will definitely let you as a board of trustees know," he said.
Trustees also asked whether there had been local camps or team activities over the summer; commentors said girls had not attended camps in the program’s name and that coaching consistency has been a recurring problem in recent years. The superintendent said he would contact high school administration and the athletic director to learn whether applicants exist and where the hiring process stands.
No formal action was taken at the meeting on the hiring issue; the superintendent committed to reporting back to the board once he has information from high school administrators and the athletic director.
