At the start of the meeting, Stacy Harvey of Fairmont Federal Credit Union presented a $1,939 donation to benefit care closets at the five Taylor County schools, explaining the amount commemorates the credit union's 80th anniversary. The board thanked the credit union and coordinated a photo opportunity with school representatives.
Later the board heard from Bryce Eisner, acting president of Grafton High School's Youth Leadership Association, who requested $1,100 from the Taylor County Commission to cover remaining costs for five students to attend the annual Youth in Government program at the state capitol. Eisner described fundraising efforts (spirit-week teacher pie events and a chili cook-off) and said the per-student shortfall was about $220. The board moved, seconded and approved allowing the students to approach the Taylor County Commission for the requested county support.
The board generally praised community support and encouraged the students as they pursue the county funding request.
