Superintendent Doctor Stallings told the Taylor County Board of Education that progress on the Flemington Elementary concession-stand project has been slowed after conversations with the health department and the fire marshal.
"There were some additional expectations regarding connecting to water and sewer lines," Stallings said, noting the contractors have been asked to address those requirements before the project can move forward.
Stallings said metal for the building had been ordered but that spring sports activity at the site has caused a temporary pause; contractors told the district they planned to resume work when the season allowed. Board members pressed the superintendent for a clearer timeline and asked whether the district would need to approve any additional expenditures if the required infrastructure work raises costs.
Administrators acknowledged uncertainty about whether sewer or water lines would have to be run across school property or parking areas and flagged potential needs for permits and coordination with the health department and fire marshal. The superintendent said the district will request a formal update from the contractors after they finish initial work on a nearby site so the board can review any new cost or permitting needs before the district approves further steps.
