Board approves routine business, reviews contracts, personnel changes and booster recognition

The superintendent said Leggett was the successful bidder.
Food-service and training items included an agreement with the West Virginia Department of Agriculture for commodity food distribution and an MOU with Mountain State Educational Services Cooperative for bus-driver training; transportation director Reynolds will actively recruit candidates for training classes. The superintendent also noted the district will comply with a state rule requiring a 60‑day break in service before retirees can be rehired as substitutes.
Personnel updates: the superintendent reported resignations among professional and service staff, including track coach Justin Bowers, and said a second-grade teacher was hired for Hodgesville Elementary (background checks completed). New hires and ECATs, substitute aides and a special-education aide (multi-categorical, autism) were being onboarded; Cliff Stodgrass has submitted required certifications to coach golf.
Community and facilities: the board discussed facilities-use requests and clarified that the Absa County Recreation Complex is an independent entity sponsored by WVU and not part of the county government. Buchanan-Upshur High School Band Boosters submitted required documents to be recognized as an outside booster organization.
Financial matters: the superintendent provided budget journals through June 2025 and a check register; a board member flagged two delayed checks and said he would follow up by email about the 45‑day payment window and other budget details. The superintendent said Sarah in finance is on vacation and will be available at the next board meeting to answer detailed questions.
The board set tentative future meeting dates (August 12 at 6:00 p.m.; August 26 and September 9 tentatively) and adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
