At its Aug. 12 meeting, the Summers County Board of Education accepted the resignation of Jesse Bullard, the district's professional accountant, effective Aug. 20, 2025, and approved a slate of superintendent-recommended personnel appointments while reserving three leadership posts for separate consideration.
The board entered executive session under West Virginia code (personnel) and returned to public session, then moved to pull two director positions and the Summers County Comprehensive High School principal from the general personnel approvals to handle them separately. For the remainder of the superintendent's recommendations, the board voted 5–0 to approve the hires.
The board formally approved the superintendent's recommendation for the Child Nutrition central office position (correcting a prior clerical posting error) with an effective date of Aug. 4, 2025. For the director of student services central office, the board requested the superintendent provide a different candidate name or repost the position; that motion passed 5–0.
On the high school principal recommendation, the superintendent proposed Sean Hawkins; the board approved that appointment by a 4–1 recorded vote.
No salary amounts or contract lengths were stated in the public discussion; the board noted follow-up and posting procedures where clerical corrections were necessary.
