Board adopts head-lice, coaches code and student cell-phone policies

The Summers County Board of Education adopted three policies on Aug. 12: an updated head-lice (pediculosis) policy, an alternate coaches code of conduct, and a tightened student cell-phone policy.
Board members discussed that the coaches code of conduct follows state policy with county-specific additions and that the alternate version includes progressive discipline (first offense: verbal warning; second: written warning with possible suspension from games; third: up to termination depending on severity). The head-lice policy was approved in updated form and the student cell-phone policy was tightened to align with state requirements. Each policy vote was recorded as 5–0.
The board also voted to post three additional policies for public comment (AP dual credit; criteria for graduation completion; grading and promotion uniformity). Those items will enter a public comment period before final adoption.
