The Summers County Board of Education convened a special meeting Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, and approved the meeting agenda, authorized payment of bills and approved the superintendent's personnel recommendations before adjourning at 10:07 a.m.
The board opened the meeting and confirmed a quorum with three members on the virtual call. The agenda was approved on a motion that was seconded and carried by a 3-0 vote. The meeting record shows the board then considered payment of bills; the chair identified two bills for clarification—DK Enterprise for bus parts and Cengage for history textbooks purchased using Step 7 funding—and the board voted 3-0 to approve payment.
On personnel, the board considered the superintendent's recommendations for service personnel, substitute service and substitute professional staff. Board member Jay McBride stated, "due to a conflict of interest, I will need to recuse myself from this vote." After a motion and second, the personnel recommendations were approved by a 2-0 vote with McBride recorded as recused. Following the personnel action, Mr. McBride rejoined the call.
Shortly afterward, Mr. McBride moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded and carried 3-0. The meeting was adjourned at 10:07 a.m.
The board recorded that the agenda and related materials were posted in the central office and in the required locations for the time specified by West Virginia code.
