District pilots after‑school supper program at Hundred Heritage and Valley; enrollment small but growing

Wetzel County Schools reported early results from a pilot after‑school supper program that began this month at Hundred Heritage School and started today at Valley. The district’s meal‑access coordinator said the first week saw limited participation — about 10 students at one site — but breakfast and lunch participation numbers are rising.
"We started the after school supper program ... it's going very well," Missus Ammons said, while noting that after‑school supper is offered only on full school days and logistics must be coordinated with school schedules. She said district staff are working to add other schools as logistics and demand allow and praised community partners (including the WVU extension) and school cooks for early support.
The district will continue to monitor participation and expand the program as appropriate; community food resources such as backpack programming and school pantries remain available to families.
Next steps: the district will continue rollout to additional schools and report back on participation trends.
