Raleigh County Schools board approves Energy Express sites, Concord affiliation, iPad keyboard case purchase and personnel actions

"We are submitting these in hopes that we will receive both sites," Ms. Reeves said; Superintendent Dr. Starcher (S6) noted the district requested two sites though awards depend on federal funding.
The board unanimously approved entering an affiliation agreement with Concord University to allow social work students to complete practicum placements in Raleigh County Schools. Dr. Starcher said the agreement was drafted to meet district requirements and would apply to any social work student.
On technology, the board approved a CDW quote to purchase keyboard cases for iPads for grades 3–5. Dr. Starcher explained principals reported compatibility issues with existing keyboards and headphones and the district selected a keyboard-case solution; he said the funded purchase "is in excess of $100,000," and staff identified the funding source before the vote.
The board also approved out-of-state travel for six staff to the University of Florida Literacy Institute using a combination of Sparking Early Literacy grant funds and PD funds from the Third Grade Success Act. A presenter described prior grant success and the district's intent to use UFLI phonics training to strengthen instruction.
Following an executive session, the board approved administrative leave for Principal Christy Clay and approved the suspension and termination of an aide, Britney Wills. The superintendent presented the personnel recommendations; motions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
