Summers County Board ratifies administrative leaves and reports student-discipline vote taken in executive session

Later in the meeting the board entered executive session to discuss the superintendent’s contract; that session ended with discussion but no action, and the chair said the item will remain on a future agenda.
The board also held executive sessions and then ratified paid administrative leave for an employee from Jan. 16–Jan. 19, 2026, approving that ratification by voice vote recorded as 4–0. The board subsequently entered executive session again and ratified paid administrative leave beginning Jan. 19, 2026, to continue until pending investigation results are received; that motion was also approved 4–0.
Board members attributed the executive sessions to personnel and student-discipline provisions of the West Virginia code as cited in the meeting record. The board recorded votes and motions in the public session minutes consistent with having taken those votes during the closed sessions.
No further personnel details were released during the public meeting; the board said it will keep the superintendent contract item and related personnel matters on future agendas for additional consideration.
