Board approves track and tennis-court projects at Independence and Shady High
Summary

Facilities staff recommended contracting ATC (and related alternates) to replace the Independence High track and to repair/resurface the tennis courts at Independence and Shady High. The presenter said higher pricing reflected additional grass removal and paving inside Independence stadium and that Shady's courts were in the worst condition countywide due to surface damage.
"Our recommendation to the board... is that we move forward with the track and the tennis job in Independence High School and the tennis job at Shady High," the facilities presenter said.
Board action: A board member moved to accept the recommendation and the motion carried on a voice vote. Members discussed warranty and maintenance concerns for turf and fading playing-surface colors; staff said vendor warranties apply and maintenance practices will influence surface life (estimated turf life 8–10 years, extendable with proper care).
What’s next: Work at Independence will include alternates for fencing and interior paving; Shady's track is expected to follow next year. Staff will oversee contractor compliance and warranty follow-up.
