Pendleton County board accepts resignations, approves hires and posts counselor position

The Pendleton County Schools Board accepted resignations and approved a slate of personnel actions at its July 1 meeting.
The board voted to accept resignations from Steven Barnett (resignation noted as school counselor at Pendleton County Middle High School), Jerrika Stingo (assistant superintendent) and Benjamin Stingo (music teacher and extracurricular band director and listed as the district's primary therapy dog handler). Superintendent Chitin recommended accepting the resignations; the board approved the recommendation by voice vote.
In related action the board approved a request to close the school-counselor position at Pendleton County Middle High School and then granted permission to post a combined school counselor/social-worker position for that school. The superintendent presented the recommendation and the board moved and approved both actions.
The board also approved employment recommendations for several newly hired staff members, including Sarah Dalen (long-term math teacher at Pendleton County Middle High School), Kristen Smith (English language arts, grades 7—6—1), Caitlin Dunn (long-term itinerant special-education teacher with autism certification), Kaley Murry (itinerant aide with autism-mentor certification), Shannon Hartman (itinerant aide), Ashley Johnson (student services coordinator and human-resources executive secretary) and Charles Hedrick (administrative mentor). The superintendent recommended the hires and the board approved them by motion and voice vote.
Separately, the board approved the volunteer/chaperone appointment of Margaret Connor at Franklin Elementary School after a staff recommendation.
Why this matters: The actions shift staffing at several grade levels and reflect the district's summer personnel adjustments ahead of the 2025—26 school year. The board recorded the motions and approved each by voice vote; minutes show no recorded roll-call tallies.
