Board to draft overnight-trip safety policy after Greenbrier incident; consent agenda approved

Ohio County Schools staff told the board on April 28 they will compile existing measures and draft a formal overnight-trip policy after concerns raised following a Greenbrier County incident. The administrator reporting to the board said the district will assemble an information packet and that Mr. Croft will assist in drafting the policy.

"We're taking all of our different things and we'll combine them into one neat, tidy, information packet," the staff member (S9) said, adding that the district has measures currently in place and will present a consolidated proposal.

The same staff member noted career-technical broadcasting students will create short safety-first videos (prom and play coverage) as part of a broader safety-and-training effort.

On routine business the board considered the consent agenda (items 7.1–7.8). Two items were pulled for discussion (referred to in the meeting as items 7.3 and 7.6). A board member asked about federal and state high-cost/high-acuity reimbursements and whether refunds are full or partial. Doctor Miller explained reimbursements depend on annual submissions and statewide allocations and are used for tuition, classroom supplies, or assistive-technology needs for students placed in out-of-state residential facilities.
