Mercer County Board of Education approves routine policies, personnel actions and project funding

The Mercer County Board of Education voted unanimously at a Nov. 21 special work session to adopt two policy second readings and to approve a set of routine financial and personnel items, while holding extended discussions on facilities priorities and other informational topics.
The board approved the second reading of Policy G38 (board member item #415) after brief discussion of teacher and administrator feedback; a board member reported minimal compliance incidents since the start of the school year. The motion carried 5–0. The board also adopted Policy I37 (embedded credits, board member #155) on its second reading by a 5–0 vote.
Board memo #204 — an employee disciplinary recommendation — was brought forward by a staff member and identified an employee (referred to in the transcript as Hannah Hoosier) who agreed to a three‑day suspension. The board approved the superintendent’s recommendation 5–0 without moving to executive session.
The board approved payment of invoices (board memo #205) and P‑card transactions (board member #206) after review, both by unanimous votes. A personnel packet contained in the second board packet was also approved 5–0.
On capital planning, the superintendent recommended and the board approved a revision to the needs‑project funding: increasing the local commitment from $4,000,000 to $4,903,323, which the superintendent said would reduce the School Building Authority (SBA) request to $10,000,000 and bring the district’s share to about 35% of the project. A board member asked whether the district could afford that commitment; the question was noted for budget planning.
Items presented for information included a reminder that the SBA CFP amendment is due Dec. 1 and an update on the district’s policy manual, which staff said is delayed by pending licensing through the state system and will be adapted for Mercer County when available.
What’s next: staff said they will bring the SBA CFP amendment in December and continue internal work on the policy manual and facilities prioritization.
