Superintendent Miller highlights enrollment uptick and student achievements at Ohio County Schools meeting

Superintendent Dr. Miller told the Ohio County Board of Education on Jan. 12 that Ohio County Schools is seeing an enrollment uptick and credited outreach efforts — social media, advertising and community programs such as the "Tiny Patriots" initiative — for increasing community engagement.
Dr. Miller praised staff and volunteers for outreach and highlighted recent and upcoming student and community activities: Wheeling Park High School's robotics and speech-and-debate tournaments, an Ohio County archery event at the Highlands, and Wheeling Park's Hall of Fame induction recognizing Michael Groves, Corey Walter and Don McCormick. He also singled out Ryan Stanton for his work on the history of Wheeling and thanked teachers who visited schools to assess student skill and content levels.
"We will continue to share with people the stories that they don't know about Ohio County Schools, and we think that that's gonna make a huge difference," Dr. Miller said.
Board members also used the "Moments for Mission" portion of the meeting to spotlight student success: Board member Molly noted three individual first-place winners for the speech-and-debate team (Levi Powell, Anna Contraguero and Gabrielle Contraguero) and an overall sweepstakes victory.
What’s next: Board members promoted community events for Martin Luther King Jr. weekend and other local activities involving students; the meeting then moved on to personnel and procedural items.
