Hardy County Schools to pilot i‑Ready diagnostic for K–8 assessments

Hardy County Schools staff told the board they will pilot the i‑Ready diagnostic across kindergarten through eighth grade this summer as a sample to compare with existing STAR assessment data.
Superintendent Jennifer Stroudman said the district was one of the few counties that had not previously used the i‑Ready diagnostic and that the vendor agreed to provide the diagnostic at no charge for the initial administration. Schools implemented the test in a mix of full-class and sample-class settings to gather representative data and staff reported positive feedback on the diagnostic reports compared with the STAR reports the district has used in prior years.
Stroudman said the district would initially purchase only the diagnostic module if the board decides to adopt it (not the full instructional package). She said staff will obtain quotes and share cost comparisons with the board; she described the diagnostic-only cost as “very comparable” to previous assessment arrangements.
The pilot is intended to give teachers and administrators sample data to evaluate whether the diagnostic’s reporting and comparison with STAR provide better information for instruction. Board members asked staff to bring quotes and implementation details once the vendor proposals are available.
