Board approves personnel items, rescinds several reduction‑in‑force notices and posts ESY nurse positions

At its May 12 meeting, the Gilmer County Board of Education approved the personnel agenda including professional hires and service appointments, and took a series of votes to rescind previously issued reduction‑in‑force (RIF) notices.
Superintendent Doctor Minnie recommended rescinding the RIFs for Alicia Martin and Julie Busby (community and schools liaisons), Britney Spunagel (west community and schools liaison) and Michelle Workman (truancy diversion specialist). Board members moved and seconded each rescission individually and each motion carried by voice vote.
The board also approved the permission to post an expanded school year (ESY) school nurse and substitute ESY nurse for summer 2025 and approved extracurricular appointments including mentors and coaches. ‘‘I make a motion to approve the service portion of the personnel agenda,’’ one board member said as the items moved forward.
