At its Aug. 25 meeting the Gilmer County Schools board approved routine consent items — minutes from the Aug. 11 and Aug. 13 meetings and bills for payment — and received operational updates from staff.
Finance reported July receipts of about $919,000 and disbursements near $436,000, noting timing of payroll as a primary factor. Finance staff also clarified that a partial payment to Robert's Builders appeared in the current batch and that an added invoice related to an agreement with Global State was not a duplicate entry.
Superintendent updates included a freezer project listed as roughly 95% complete after a visit from the SBA, and ongoing construction at several sites. Board members asked for a status update on an elementary‑school storage building; the superintendent said the structure is nearly finished but that HVAC still needs to be added. A board member noted the career center had received $2,000,000 in SBA funding for a foods-lab renovation and that Hope Gas is a business partner assisting with improvements.
During board comments a resident delegation (Lucy Ann West) asked the district to replace or remove damaged and unreadable signs at the high school and Leading Creek School; the superintendent said he had spoken to staff about signs and would follow up on orders and responsibilities.
