Hardy County Schools staff brief board on federal-programs monitoring, documentation needs and strategic-plan ties

Mrs. Strowman told the board monitors will review a wide range of federal programs activity — Titles I–IV and the Stronger Connections grant among them — and will examine documentation: purchase requisitions, sign-in sheets for parent engagement and professional development, fiscal records, and program reports. She said monitors often request examples and can pull additional items for review during their on-site visit, which staff said is scheduled for March 27.
"They'll also be here in person March 27, at which point in time, they'll ask questions," Mrs. Strowman said. She stressed that federal funding must be documented and aligned to strategic-plan goals, citing literacy, numeracy and leadership-development programs that federal funds support.
Board members asked how family-engagement work ties to existing programs such as Leader in Me; Mrs. Strowman replied that schools implement family engagement differently and that Title I set-asides (1% for parent engagement) require documentation. She noted the district had not had a monitoring in five years and that the federal review both checks fiscal stewardship and assesses whether funds are driving instructional improvement.
The presentation concluded with a reminder that missing documentation could trigger an improvement plan and that staff is preparing uploaded examples and reports ahead of the visit.
