FAYETTE COUNTY — Fayette County Schools board members on Wednesday began a detailed review of a broad package of district policy updates, with staff presenting changes that formalize the district’s school safety practices, adjust health and staffing rules and clarify reporting requirements.
The work session focused first on a new school safety policy (8400) that formally establishes a county safety team and consolidates existing practices. “This just formalizes that process,” a staff presenter told the board as members praised the work of school safety lead Tim Payton. Board members asked about fitness and credential requirements for officers assigned to schools and whether volunteers or parent safety patrols should be referenced in policy; staff said the district already uses a volunteer application and background checks at the school level.
