Board adopts policy change limiting retired-employee participation in district health plan

The Wilmot UHS School District board approved second readings of policy updates to clarify retiree health-insurance participation rules.
Staff said the updates to policies 4425 (support staff) and 3425 (professional staff) make clear that retired employees and spouses shall not be permitted to participate in the district’s health-insurance plan unless participation is required by a prior collective-bargaining agreement. Staff said the change currently applies to two members who are covered by previous agreements; the policies would prevent future retiree enrollments unless the board later amends the language.
The board moved, seconded and approved the policy changes on a voice vote.
Why it matters: The change clarifies benefit eligibility for retirees and could affect future retiree coverage options; staff said the change implements an existing board decision reached in September.
