Board approves theater safety plan and adds assistant coaches for gymnastics and wrestling

At its regular meeting the Wilmot UHS School District board approved a new theater safety plan and authorized additions to the athletics staff.
Staff reported that Mr. Bender, Dan Nelson and Jamie Ivan presented the theater safety plan at the Nov. 11 working session and that no changes were made since that presentation. "There were no changes made to it," the presenter said before asking for approval. The board moved, seconded and approved the safety plan.
On staffing, staff recommended adding one assistant gymnastics coach after two coop teams combined and athlete numbers increased; the district will prorate the coach’s cost across cooperating districts, and board members were told no additional district revenue is required. The board approved the gymnastics coach position.
Staff also recommended a second assistant wrestling coach because participation—particularly among girls—has increased to an estimated 15 or more athletes, and separate tournament schedules have made additional supervision necessary. The board approved the additional wrestling coach.
Why it matters: Approvals respond to changes in student participation and facility needs, and the theater safety plan formalizes procedures for productions and events. Those decisions affect extracurricular operations and staffing expenses shared across cooperating districts.
