The Gilmer County Board of Education unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with West Virginia University at Parkersburg that will allow WVUP students to complete early-childhood field observations and placements in district classrooms. Superintendent (S1) described the agreement as standard: WVUP students will "observe" in early-education settings and will follow district policies while on site.
Separately, the board approved an out-of-state field trip request for the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Superintendent (S1) said members of the FFA will travel to Bidwell, Ohio to pick up hogs for the ham-and-bacon instructional program and to tour a commercial slaughterhouse as part of the curricular experience. The board moved and seconded both recommendations and approved them by voice vote.
Both items were presented as part of the meeting's consent or new-business agenda; no amendments were proposed. The MOU runs through June 30, 2026, per the motion.
