Board hears construction update: framing and roofing progress, sewer plant and temporary‑toilets concern; SBA funding application will be resubmitted

At the Dec. 16 Fayette County Board of Education meeting, a facilities presenter walked the board through photographs and a timeline of progress on a school construction project, reporting framing inside the classroom wings, completion of roof decking in the administrative area and upcoming brick façade work.
The presenter said recent warmer weather improved progress and that roofers were scheduled to begin the administration side and work toward the cafeteria and gym. He noted insulated concrete forms (ICF) for the second floor and poured, cured concrete and set steel as completed milestones.
The presenter asked the board to be mindful of utility coordination, saying water and power connections and the timing of those work items could affect the target date. He also raised concern about a new sewer plant, saying the district needs the plant operational so restrooms at the new baseball and softball fields can be connected; otherwise, temporary toilets may be required for early games.
On funding, the presenter told the board the district did not receive an SBA award for the project, but said the project scored highly and the district would bring the project back for reconsideration. "They were very impressed with the presentation... They want us to bring the project back," he said.
Board members asked clarifying questions about timelines and contingency plans; staff said brick work should begin in two to three weeks if weather and heaters are on track. The board moved on to consent and finance items after the update.
