Brooke County Schools board approves vendor recommendation, facility bids and personnel slate

Separately, the board approved two facility bids. The board accepted a bid from Veracom for an electronic control system in the amount of $14,448.71 and a bid from Comfort Supply for a 16-ton RTU heat pump in the amount of $50,995; both bids were approved by voice vote with no opposition, per the meeting record.
Superintendent Donnie Crooks asked the board to renew three six-month advertising contracts; the board removed contract number 3, which reduced the district’s cost by $5,400, and approved renewals for contracts 1 and 2 only.
On personnel and school activities, the board approved several items read into the record: a certified posting (P1772) for a school nurse at Merrick Brook Middle—Brook Andrews; service posting S143928 (Randy Busey); substitute aide Tammy Provenzano; substitute custodian Nicholas Burdette; an intermittent FMLA leave beginning Oct. 4 for Stacy Jones (custodian); and the addition of Christine Sharrock as a noncoaching cheer volunteer. The board also approved field-trip and extracurricular travel requests, including a student trip to a Cinemark theater to see a film, by voice vote.
The meeting record shows the board motioned earlier to go into an executive session to discuss possible litigation concerning a social media class-action matter; the board entered and then returned from that executive session with no business conducted while in closed session, per the chair’s statement.
