District previews Soarscribe learning tool as possible core special‑education curriculum

Mallory Drew, the district’s director of people services, presented a prototype of a web‑based special‑education curriculum resource described during the meeting as Soarscribe (presentation referenced links to CASEL standards and progress monitoring). Drew said the district piloted a trial version with special‑education staff and found the tool could be customized, assigned through Google platforms, and provide detailed progress monitoring for case managers.

"It is web based, but you can print the resources... it has built in accommodations... it's evidence based, and it's linked back to CASEL," Drew said during the demonstration. She added the platform can show pre‑ and post‑assessment results and produce data that special‑education teams can use in weekly problem‑solving conversations.

Board members asked how individual student data could be pulled to address a student who had a difficult day and how teachers would use the platform to set weekly goals. Drew said the system records each online activity and reports beginning and post scores; staff will combine those reports with team problem‑solving to evaluate real‑world impact in classrooms.

Drew emphasized the district is in early stages of implementation, planning to start small with special‑education groups and expand if the resource meets needs; vendor training for staff over the summer was part of the proposed rollout.

The board did not take a purchasing vote on the platform at the meeting; the presentation was informational and intended to gather board questions and feedback.
