Board authorizes PSI contracting, hires and gym-floor project; approves IT and teaching contracts

The Silver Lake J1 School District board approved a series of operational and capital items Tuesday tied to implementing the recently passed referendum and to daily operations.
The board voted to authorize the district administrator to sign a contract with PSI for referendum project management and bidding — the contract is subject to legal review and capped at $7,000,000. The motion was made and carried after discussion about contractor selection and bid processes. The administrator clarified the district may request specific local contractors be included in PSI’s bid solicitations.
On technology services, the board approved an amended managed-services contract with CompuNet to continue and expand IT support, including Chromebook management, a help‑desk ticketing system and web‑filtering (Securly). The administrator reported a year of improved service since switching to CompuNet and said the district expects to expand hardware-management support under the contract.
Personnel actions approved by the board included full-time teaching contracts for two hires effective August 1, 2025, and authorization to add a full-time math specialist/coach (50% coaching/50% intervention) plus one or two permanent building substitutes for the 2025–26 school year. Andrea (staff presenter) said the math specialist would support K–4 intervention and coaching to mirror existing reading intervention supports and could be licensed for special education minutes if candidates hold the appropriate credentials.
For capital projects, the board accepted Kiefer’s proposal to sand, refinish and repaint the main gym floor (including several optional repairs) and scheduled the work for late July or August to avoid interfering with summer-school use; the contractor’s total proposal was presented and accepted by motion.
Other business included board approval of an advanced learning handbook (required by Wisconsin statutes) and a plan to submit documentation for DPI reimbursement for 'unusually hazardous transportation' (railroad crossing), which will provide $15 per qualifying student once verified by the sheriff and mapped.
