Platteville School Board approves 2025–26 budget, certifies $9.58 million tax levy and authorizes short-term borrowing

The Platteville School Board approved its 2025–26 budget, certified a $9,583,899 tax levy and authorized up to $1,000,000 in short-term borrowing to cover cash-flow needs for the upcoming school year, the board decided at its regular meeting.

Staff presented the recommended 2025–26 budget format and said the district held its annual budget hearing earlier the same evening. A motion by board member Kurt, seconded by Steve, to approve the 2025–26 budgets as presented passed on a voice vote.

The board then considered certification of the district’s tax levy. Staff recommended a resolution to certify the Platteville School District’s 2025–26 total tax levy at $9,583,899; a motion by board member Colleen, seconded by Matt, to certify the levy passed on a voice vote.

Board members also approved an annually requested short-term borrowing resolution that sets the parameters for emergency cash management. The board authorized the Platteville School District to borrow an amount not to exceed $1,000,000 for up to nine months to cover operational cash-flow needs for the 2025–26 school year (motion by Betsy, seconded by Ashley); the motion passed by voice vote.

Earlier business on the consent agenda — including approval of the Oct. 8 meeting minutes — and the adoption of the meeting agenda were approved by voice vote. The meeting was adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
